Wasma-2026: Exhibition Results

From April 28 to 30, the 22nd International Exhibition of Environmental Technologies, Wasma, took place at the Timiryazev Center, organized by MVK International Exhibition Company. The Russian Environmental Operator Public Law Company (REO PPC) traditionally acted as a co-organizer.
 
This year, Wasma featured over 50 companies from Russia, Belarus, India, and China.
 
More than 1,500 specialists attended the exhibition from 56 Russian regions, representing industrial enterprises, recyclers, regional waste operators, waste processing complexes, and regional government authorities. The share of new visitors reached 60%.
 
Business Program
 
The main event of the exhibition was its extensive business program, which was attended by 850 listeners and featured over 120 speakers — industry experts from business, government, public organizations, and professional associations.
 
The program included the International Congress of Environmental Technologies, a conference on "Industrial and Municipal Wastewater Treatment," and a Lecture Series on the management of different waste classes.
 
The exhibition was supported by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade.
 
The exhibition partners included the Russian Water Supply and Wastewater Association (RAVV), the National Water Supply and Wastewater Association (NAVV), the Resource Association, the Klever Waste Recyclers Association, the Recycling of Waste Association (ARO), Rosutilizatsiya, the EcoShinUnion Association, the Shinoecology Association, and KazWaste.
 
Equipment on Display and Exhibitor Feedback
 
The exhibition showcased air and water purification systems, waste collection, sorting, and processing equipment, municipal machinery, sorbents for oil spill response, automation systems, hazardous waste treatment equipment, as well as related products and services.
 
Lexor presented equipment for recycling tires, metal, plastic, and other industrial waste. Yuri Kozlovsky, Managing Partner of the company, commented on the value of the exhibition as a marketing tool:
 
"We have been participating in Wasma for eight years in a row and will always participate. We consider it an important industry exhibition and want to enter new markets. We are in the B2B sector — contextual advertising doesn't work for us. Word of mouth and specialized events do. At the exhibition, we meet people who are impossible to reach with a cold call. And most importantly, here you can meet in person."
 
Aerofiltr presented high-efficiency aerosol and aerosol-iodine filters, adsorber filters, high-efficiency filtration units, and analytical equipment for clean rooms. Yulia Kasyan, a company marketer, shared her opinion on the exhibition's audience:
 
"The audience at Wasma was very targeted for us. The majority of visitors (about 80%) were industry professionals, and students from specialized universities (about 10%) showed keen interest in our technologies and internship opportunities. Visitors came to our booth with specific technical problems. During the exhibition, we found potential clients for product purchases and testing in our laboratory, which is accredited by Rosatom. We also gained a number of promising contacts in other areas."

Business Program
 
During the International Congress of Environmental Technologies, strategies for achieving environmental well-being in the face of global changes were considered, along with the role of regional operators in building a circular economy. The congress also addressed the challenge of achieving a 25% recycling rate by 2030 and ways to solve it. Particular attention was paid to adapting the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system to current conditions, waste management issues in construction and demolition, and strategic prospects for organic waste recycling.
 
A key event of the congress was the session "Maximum Pressure: Effective Functioning of the Waste Management Industry in the Current Situation," dedicated to the industry's pressing problems. The session, co-organized by EcoLine, featured packaging manufacturers, industry associations, recyclers, and processing experts. The discussion also served as an offsite meeting of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Recycling Commission, and its resolution will be sent to federal authorities.
 
The interactive business game "Close the Loop" allowed participants to explore practical cases reflecting real industry constraints and to interact with experts and other market players.
 
At the "Industrial and Municipal Wastewater Treatment" Conference, issues of improving legislation in the field of wastewater disposal, the use of sludge for industrial and agricultural purposes, and the best available technologies for wastewater treatment were discussed. Special attention was paid to the treatment of complex industrial effluents, including mine water treatment technologies, the use of membrane bioreactors, and the modernization of treatment facilities.
 
The Lecture Series on Waste Management focused on the challenges facing the recycling industry in Russia. It presented cases on the secondary use of non-standard waste, examples of industry digitalization, and featured an open discussion on EPR reporting and optimizing eco-tax costs. Retail cases on food waste management were also presented. The lecture series partners were Ubirator, EcoPoint, A.PRO, and Lubistock.
 
As part of the case session "Corporate Responsibility: Environmental Projects as Part of a Sustainable Development Strategy," Leroy Merlin (Lema PRO) presented a closed-loop project for recycling stretch film waste. Grigory Kakurnikov shared his impressions:
 
"Participating in Wasma was our first time bringing this project into the public eye. Our goal was to show the expert community and the market what additional tools exist for working with waste. We presented our closed-loop project, where we give our stretch film waste to a partner, they recycle it and send the finished product made from our own waste back to our shelves across Russia. Over the two years of this project, we have managed to save 11 million rubles. Our experience proves that even in times of crisis, fine-tuning processes allows you to achieve economic benefits."
