The MSW processing plan will be overfulfilled by 2024

About 58 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) are planned to be sent for treatment by 2024. Thus, the plan for the share of processed waste, laid down in the Ecology national project, will be exceeded by 20%, said Alexei Makrushin, deputy director general of the Russian environmental operator company.

“At the moment, the federal scheme provides even higher rates for waste treatment than it is planned by the national project. We assume that the total waste processing capacity may be about 58 million tons,” he said during the webinar: “60% Handling, 36% Utilization - Is It Big or Little?” Broadcast on the REO channel on YouTube.

Thus, according to Makrushin, more than 80% of MSW will be able to be sorted. According to the data for 2019, only 18.2% of the waste was directed to treatment.

The federal project “Integrated Solid Municipal Waste Management System” envisages an increase by 2024 in the share of utilized solid municipal waste up to 36%, and directed to treatment - up to 60%. To this end, it is planned to commission 31.7 million tons of MSW processing capacities and 23.1 million tons of waste and fraction disposal capacities after MSW processing.
